Topic: Noise Exposure Technologies

Exposure to impulsive or continuous excessive noise can damage nerve endings in the inner ear resulting in temporary or permanent hearing loss.  To prevent this OSHA requires the implementation of a hearing conservation program for workers experiencing high noise environments.  This presentation will cover terms, standards, instrumentation and procedures necessary to conduct a successful noise exposure study.  We will also cover some relevant acoustic principles and discuss corrective measures through noise abatement, PPE or work procedures.

Speaker Bio - Jake Nurre - I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Chemical Engineering where I focused on process safety and inherently safe designs.  As a co-op student I worked with Duke Energy in Environmental health and Safety where I monitored plant emissions and wrote plant safety procedures.  Upon graduation I worked as a technician for audio and radio frequency technology.  In August of 2020 I began working as technical support for Larson Davis.  Larson Davis (Provo, Utah) is a subsidiary of PCB Piezotronics and works in conjunction with The Modal Shop out of Cincinnati, Ohio.
